Ryan is great at teaching - really informative online classes - I learnt so much!
Expressive Draw is filled with great content for the artist trying to find that elusive ability to draw loosely. I have been lucky enough to attend in person workshops with Ryan and watching these modules it felt like I was back in those workshops again. Wonderful to watch the demos too.
Ryan's drawing course is superb. I've spent hours hunting around YouTube (unsuccessfully) looking for the knowledge that he offers in a clear, timely, and concise manner. The entire course, from his teaching, to the required materials are organized in an easy and accessible way. Not all artists are willing to share their wisdom with such generosity – thank you!
I would highly recommend Ryan's online workshops, they are informative and engaging full of great tips and advice covering the basics as well as advanced techniques. Ryan delivers an exceptional insight into his drawing and painting methods and tools through instruction and demonstration. A wealth of information to view, explore and experiment with to improve your own practice.
The workshops are amazing as Ryan not only explains in words how to draw but also shows the exact materials and how to even hold the hand and the pencil/charcoal etc. Everything is very detailed and the tutorials are also great as we can see how he draws a portrait from the first steps. Thank you for these great workshops, tips, advices and tutorials.
I have attended both in-person classes and Ryan's online classes, and they are brilliant. The lessons build upon each other so you start with the basics and progress at your own pace. Ryan gives a lot of helpful tips in between the main lessons, and I found the demonstration videos and referencing materials very helpful. The website is also easy to navigate. I would recommend the classes from anyone who is just starting to dip their toes into the world of drawing and painting, to people who have been making art for years and want to broaden their skillset.
Mr. Ahern is an inspiration to me. Seeing his paintings feels like listening to great jazz. There is a daring sense of momentum and exploration in them. They aren't carefully controlled or tight in any way. That energy and boldness communicate the power of improvisation and discovery. He perfectly captures the balance between abstraction and realism that I find absolutely thrilling and want to bring to my own work.
Mr. Ahern is also an inspiring teacher. I've seen a lot of online art instruction content and I can safely say his techniques are unique. He uses unconventional tools where the traditional use of brushes plays a minor roll. He explains how and why he uses these tools in a cogent, approachable style. Seeing his methods and employing them has been a game changer in my own work.
I can't recommend him more highly as an artist and a teacher.
I really enjoy Ryan David Ahern’s workshop. Everything is explained from the basics, including simple forms, materials, and how to get different effects step by step. The course is very informative and well structured, but still easy to follow.
I also chose this course because I genuinely like Ryan’s own art. Looking at my own work, I feel that the course has influenced not only my technique, but also the way I approach drawing, helping me loosen up, simplify forms, use stronger marks, and trust unfinished or more expressive areas instead of trying to control everything too much.
